Developmental/ substantive editing:
Our developmental and substantive editors take your

your arguments line up, reduce inconsistency, ensuring that the elements of your
story are in the right places, and that everything flows logically and
consistently. We also make sure that you are not leaving out any key details
while also cutting out any irrelevant materials that might end up impeding the
smooth flow of the story.
Here, we take a critical look at the structure of the
manuscript in order to assess structure, flow, completeness, and overall
quality. Where necessary, we provide you with a short memo that summarizes our key
points, areas of concern, and suggestions for your book.
Content Editing:
At this level, we dig into the words on the page, reading
and carefully editing the manuscript with an eye on the completeness, flow, and
construction of ideas and stories, working paragraph by paragraph and chapter
by chapter. We provide you with a paragraph-level set of markups on your
manuscript, offering corrections, pointing out incomplete sections, and
offering advice on smoothing the flow and construction of your chapters,
sections, and subsections. Our focus at this level of editing also includes the
tone and voice of your manuscript. We take into consideration, your target
audience and thus ensure that the way your content comes off (tone) is a good
fit for that audience, and that the writing sounds like you (voice). We help
refine your language for your intended audience.
Line Editing:
Our line editors focus on word choice, deciding whether each sentence has the intended impact.
We not only consider your book’s flow but are also concerned about how each
word in a sentence interacts with the others and how one sentence transit
smoothly into another. We point out run-on sentences, sentence fragments,
sloppy sentences and clichés that may end up distorting the flow of your story.
Our editors help you clarify meaning, eliminate jargon, and ensure that each
sentence registers right in the reader’s mind while tightening your sentences
and helping you say in a few words what you initially said in an overcrowded
sentence.
Copy Editing:
We meticulously go through your book and look out for spelling,
punctuation, and grammar mistakes. When you read your book out loud (which all
authors should do), you may catch the sloppy mistakes and wording issues, but you
most likely will miss the stuff that copyeditors search for: small but very important
grammatical rules that even native English speakers often don’t realize exist.
We look out for mistakes and check that your book follows
the style guide appropriate for your genre. Are you using British or American
English? Are you adhering to the rules of your choice in spellings, punctuations,
and word usage? These are some of the things we look out for at this level of
editing.
Fact-check Editing:
Fact-checking is one of the most important types of
editing for a book and we do not treat it with levity. Here, we verify the
factual accuracy of the information in your text, including dates, statistics,
names, and places. Whether it’s a fiction or a non-fiction book, we always look
out for and ensure the accuracy of facts and terms presented in it.
Proofreading Editing:
Now that your manuscript has gone through the different
levels of editing mentioned above, it’s time to take one final look at it in
the form of proofreading. We look out for typos and misplaced punctuations,
and also search for layout issues like page numbering, consistency with
headings, placement of tables of figures in the text, bad line or page breaks, irregular
indentation and more.
And the most amazing part of it all is that we provide
all of the above mentioned editing services as a total package in one book job for a fee of just 3k per A4 page (jobs within the Nigerian book industry and 0.025 USD per word for oversea jobs).
